DayTripping to Glenside, PA

Glenside,Pa – Saturday July 28, 2019

Dave and I visited Glenside on our first daytrip. I had heard good things about Dino’s Backstage located next to the Keswick Theater and we decided to check it out. When we arrived in Glenside, we couldn’t find the theater (I am a true believer in wandering around and see what we come across) turns out Glenside is split between two townships: Abington Township & Cheltenham Township. The Keswick Theater is located in Keswick Village (makes sense with the name) about a mile from what I would consider the main drag of Glenside. As we walked around Glenside, we came across what looked like an odd insect museum and decided to walk in-turns out its Humphreys Pest Control-an old school business run by an 80 something women that comes in everyday along with 2 of her children. Not that snakes soaking in jars makes us hungry but as we continued down the street we stopped in at the Glenside Pub. Neither Dave nor I are foodies but we do enjoy a good story (especially while sitting at the bar drinking a beer) and hearing the stories about the hanging signs and old timers was worth the stop. We then drove over to the “other side”. We were too early to enjoy Dino’s (we’ll be back) but got a chance to stop into a few shops and met the owner of an adorable shop, Keane Vintage. Kathleen was a delight and clearly loves her vintage clothes (her story will be told in more detail in a print edition later). Kathleen shared stories about her shop, Glenside and her past. One can see how Glenside is working to improve and/or maintain the shops and it certainly was an enjoyable afternoon. As we were headed home we stopped at Arcadia University to see Grey Towers Castle. All I can say is WOW! As a child I remember driving by Beaver College (now Arcadia) on my way to visit my grandparents in Jenkintown and seeing the tower but until now I had never visited. Stunning castle and grounds that easily could have been the setting for the sound of music-check out our YouTube video of me channeling Maria and enjoying a few of my favorite things!
