DayTripping to Clinton, NJ

Clinton, NJ – Saturday August 4, 2019

My sister-in-laws sister lives in Clinton and we asked her for a list of to do’s while on our daytrip to Clinton. Thank you for the suggestions Holly! First of all we need to say FREE Parking-definitely a huge plus for any tourist. The Red Mill Museum and Hunterdon Art Museum are both MUST SEEs at the end of Main Street situated along the banks of the South Branch of the Raritan River. We also heard that during Halloween The Mill transforms into a professional level, scary haunted house that needs to be on your list if you like horror (which I do!). As we followed the music around town and the roar of the river (its been raining a lot) we stopped at The Clean Plate Kitchen for lunch on the river. As a vegetarian, me not Dave (Dave would eat an entire cow if he had enough Tabasco) I was thrilled with the options! How I became a vegetarian will be saved for a later story…After lunch we stopped at The Clinton Bike Shop-working inside were Gardner (great name) and Rachel. Dave used to be an avid mountain biker until he broke his femur on a trail but STILL can’t pass a bike shop without walking in. They opened the shop in 1992 and have been working together for 26 years while being married-their fun story will be told in more detail in a future print edition. We then stopped into what looked like an old garage converted into a cute chocolate shop. The Chocodiem was opened by Jean Paul Hepp, a PhD turned master chocolatier with two stores and one more opening soon. Stay tuned for his story at a later date in print as well! After a truffle or two we headed back to the car-Dave commented that we hadn’t seen a bar-I said we probably just didn’t notice one but I was wrong (yes people I am admitting I was wrong) apparently there is only ONE liquor license in the borough. The Clinton House was opened in 1743 and therefore grandfathered in or there would be NO bars in the borough-fun fact. See you in October Clinton-BOO!
